Introduction

History

- The Forensic medicine and toxicology department has been in existence since the very inception of this college in the year 2015.

- In a very beginning Dr. Pradip G. Dixit was Dean and Prof. & Head of Department of Forensic Medicine, used to look after all administrative and handled all medico-legal work on top of that establishment of Department of forensic medicine & toxicology was essential in Govt. Medical College, Chandrapur.

- F.M. & T department is situeted in Left Wing, Ground Floor, in front of Dissection hall, Govt. Medical College, Chandrapur.

- With the active cooperation of our respected Dean & with inter departmental coordination this department proposes

1. To establish an unnatural disaster management unit.

2. To establish poison information center.

3. Toxicology laboratory for rapid identification of common poisons.

4. Death and dead information center.

5. Sexual offence counseling center with the help of NGO.

6. Forensic photography center.

7. To establish medicolegal institute.

Undergraduate teaching :

I. Lectures: in Forensic Pathology, Clinical Forensic Medicine & Forensic Toxicology – lectures per week for lst and 2nd term students.

II. Practical: – in Forensic Pathology, Clinical Forensic Medicine & Forensic Toxicology – 3 days in a week. Revision lectures and practical for 3rd term students.

III. Autopsy Demonstration

IV. Court procedures: for interested students along with teachers.

V. Medicolegal Consultancy: to medical practitioners, lawyers and public as and when needed.

Post graduate teaching

We are planning to start post graduate Degree and Diploma courses for medical students and Medicolegal CME programme for Medical officer as and when required consists of Autopsy techniques, recent advances in Forensic medicine and toxicology, medicolegal case discussions and journal clubs.

collaboration

I. The department has collaborations with Institutions belonging BAMS and BHMS students from nearer Ayurvedic and Homeopathic Medical college respectively for their orientation about Autopsy and Knowledge of Medical Jurisprudence.

II. The department collaborates with Nursing staffs for documentation and Handling of Medicolegal cases in emergency.
